I once read from Bo Sanchez’s article that if you compute the average income of people in your inner circle (people who you associate with and are very close to you, possibly people who influences you) will eventually (more or less) be your income as well. After reading it, I came to realize that it was true.

We have heard many quotes in the past such as:

“Birds of the same feather, they flock together”.

“Tell me who your friends are and I will tell you who you are”.

“The Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree”.

And many more.

Basically these quotes relays the message that our character will always line up with the people in our inner circle. The people who we associate with a lot, their character or attitude will eventually rub on thus we become like them. But I came to realize that it doesn’t only affect our character but it even goes further, it even affects our status in finances and how we manage our finances.

When I was still new in the field of church ministry, the people I use to be with strongly influenced me not only about life and ministry but also about money or how I managed my money. There was a time that everyone was involving themselves in Scuba Diving, though I do not regret my experiences in Scuba Diving but it was not really my passion. But since my friends were into it and I didn’t want to be left behind… I decided to go with the flow… I had to buy gears, suits and equipment’s that was way over my pay. Thus I ended up piled with debt even though I bought some of the stuff through a deferred payment using a credit card, I still didn’t have the capacity to pay them all. Since I wanted to cope with my friends and I valued their companionship, even if I didn’t have the budget… I sacrificed it for the sake of friends. In short, friends does influence us in how we manage our money. I’m not saying that friends are bad but we need to learn to be wise in our own endeavors regardless of what friends might say. Your finances is your responsibility and not your friends. Sometimes the best answers to your friends is “NO”, especially if it something that will compromise your well-being or will compromise your future.

I would like to call this “The Law of Association”… your status in life, no matter what it may be, even finances can also be based and or influenced by the people you associate with. The Bible also agrees;

I Corinthians 15:33;

” Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.”

Though this verse is on the negative but you cannot deny the principle that the company you keep will influence your character… even your finances.

Here is the logic, I agree with E.T. Harve Eker who says that everyone has a financial blueprint and people can never go beyond their financial blueprint even if a person wins the lottery, if his financial blueprint is poor that person will eventually mismanage his money and will loose them all in due time.  If you hang out with people whose financial blueprint is Thousands of Pesos… eventually that is where you will be. If the people you hang out with has a financial blueprint of Millions of Pesos, that is where you will be… but if you are not there, your continuous association with them will push you to the level they are in… till the time comes that you will be a millionaire yourself.

So here is a word of advice; If you want to change the financial blueprint of your life… change your company. I’m not saying to let go of your present friends and I’m not saying that your present friends are bad, I’m just stressing the reality. If you are serious of excelling to a higher financial level then look for a new group of people whose financial blueprint is what you desire and associate with them. You can still have your current friends, you are just making a change of who you are allowing to influences your life and finances. Learn from them, observe them, ask them questions and listen to what they have to say because most of what they say is already proven and it works because it worked for them.

Proverbs 27:17;

Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.

Associate to gain wisdom, associate to expand the horizon of your mind. Another word of advice, never take a step towards your desire without first learning everything that you can learn from people who has already been there and is still there.

Proverbs 20:18

Living Bible (TLB)

18 Don’t go ahead with your plans without the advice of others; don’t go to war until they agree.

Proverbs 20:18

New King James Version (NKJV)

18 Plans are established by counsel;

By wise counsel wage war.

Planning must be done properly and the best way to plan is by seeking counsel especially from proven people who have already gone through the path you desire and ended up successful. They will be the ones who can give you sound advice and specifics that no other person or books will be able to share to you.

Associating yourself with successful people… people who know what they are talking about. Wise people will help you be certain in the path that you need to take.

Proverbs 11:14

New King James Version (NKJV)

14 Where there is no counsel, the people fall;

But in the multitude of counselors there is safety.

Proverbs 24:6

New King James Version (NKJV)

6 For by wise counsel you will wage your own war,

And in a multitude of counselors there is safety.

Once you associate yourself with the right people and with their counsel (knowledge, wisdom and experience) to guide you… you are assured of safety, you are assured that the plan or the path recommended will surely work and be effective.

Proverbs 12:26;

New King James Version (NKJV)

The righteous should choose his friends carefully,

For the way of the wicked leads them astray

Choose your circle of influence wisely. Because whoever they are, it will rub on you.

Your circle of influence will either help you reach your destiny or prevent it from happening. That’s why it is serious that you have the right association.

Proverbs 13:18-20;

New King James Version (NKJV)

18 Poverty and shame will come to him who disdains correction,

But he who regards a rebuke will be honored.

19 A desire accomplished is sweet to the soul,

But it is abomination to fools to depart from evil.

20 He who walks with wise men will be wise,

But the companion of fools will be destroyed.

Choose to associate with people who you want to be… and one more thing, there is an awesome satisfaction when we get the desires accomplished. Take note satisfaction comes after achieving the desire and not just by desiring it. Desire is the first step but it has to go further than that – into commitment and then into action for it to be accomplished. Always be mindful of accomplishing what you have started even if it just started with a thought or a desire. Don’t back out from it but with God’s grace in your life, you can achieve it.

I have come to know certain people in my life who are so full of knowledge, well knowledge is important as some say “Knowledge is Power”… and I totally agree. I fully believe that we all are students for life, we cannot say to anyone even to ourselves that we already know everything. There is always something new to learn and many of those lessons are crucial to our growth. It is just but proper to never stop learning or studying, the moment we stop learning is the moment we stop growing. Our personal growth is our responsibility and should be our priority. The power to initiate growth or stop it is ours alone, no one can do it for us.

But growth or learning never reaches its full maturity unless we apply what we’ve have learned. Instead of keeping the knowledge in our brain, why not let it out through our actions. We cannot learn how to drive a car or experience the joy of driving just by simply reading it in a book. We cannot learn how to swim or experience the joy of swimming just by simply reading it in a book. We have to go out and apply what we’ve read into actions… and it is in the application that we actually get into a deeper understanding of what we have been reading. We learn even more when knowledge is applied.

How will you now if it really works unless and until you apply those knowledge in your life. The sad story is that there are many who have knowledge (and some are just full of it) but never had the guts to use it. I call them “Half cooked”. I have attended seminars on financial education and almost everyone leaves the seminar all pumped up… but the sad truth is not everyone will execute what they have learned and that is why there are only a few who have made it, only a few are successful, only a few are rich. The main reason why is because of FEAR. The “FEAR OF LOOSING” is greater that the “EXCITEMENT OF WINNING”. Successful people are not afraid to fail because they understand that it is part of learning, it is part of growing. I believe that we can learn from other people’s mistakes and that is wise, but the possibility of making mistakes should not stop you from pursuing your goal and/or your dream.

Robert Kiyosaki says that the first step is usually the scariest of them all and that is why most people don’t take it. But the challenge is don’t be most people… anyways, you will later find out that it is not as bad as you thought once you took the first step. But fear is not from God.

2 Timothy 1:7

New King James Version (NKJV)

  • For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

As believers in Jesus Christ, God has not given and will never give you fear but will supply you:

  • Power = which is ability needed to succeed.
  • Love = assurance or certainty within oneself that God will surely guarantee help towards your success.
  • Sound Mind = creative mind and a stable mind, not confused but is so focused to the goal towards success.

God will supply you everything you need to succeed.

1 John 4:18

New King James Version (NKJV)

18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.

The reason why God doesn’t give fear or doesn’t want you in fear is because fear brings torment which doesn’t support your success. The answer to eliminating fear is God’s love towards you. Understanding and being conscious that you are Gods beloved and Gods favored one will boost confidence in you and the belief that you cannot fail because you have God backing you up.

Romans 8:31, 35, 37-39;

New King James Version (NKJV)

31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Nothing will ever separate us from Gods love and it is His love that will empower us to become “MORE THAN A CONQUEROR”. Take note of the word “Conqueror”… that means there will be something that needs conquering and fear needs to be conquered & eliminated… and Gods love will make it happen. This scripture proves that it is Gods will for us to succeed… it is Gods will for us to WIN. This also tells us that we might encounter obstacles on the way that will hinder us to succeed but those obstacles should not discourage nor be a threat to us… but we should be bold to face it head on and know that we can overcome them all and emerge victorious.

1 John 4:17;

New King James Version

[ The Consummation of Love ] Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world.

I believe the truth that since we are just like Jesus… we all have the DNA of a WINNER… because Jesus is the WINNER and knows not how to fail.

What people need is a “LEAP OF FAITH”. Taking the first steps towards the goal even if there are many things that seems uncertain yet. The good thing about this is that you are doing something about what you desire instead of just dreaming about it. Dreams are good but dreams are just only dreams unless you do something to make it a reality. Stop dreaming the dream but start living the dream. Be aggressive in making your dream a reality and God is in the business of fulfilling the desires of your heart which includes your dream. Stop working all your life fulfilling another person’s dream and start fulfilling your own dream.

Romans 1:17;

New King James Version

For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.

God has called us to live a life of faith.

Hebrews 11:1;

New King James Version

[ By Faith We Understand ] Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

I believe faith is having that solid feeling within to go forth towards those things you are hoping forth… it is so solid in your heart that you are willing to take the risk even if you don’t really see it in the natural but you see it in your mind and in your heart. Just like Peter, he was able to walk on water and do the impossible because he heeded to the words of Jesus and had faith that he too can do it.

How will you know what you are capable of unless and until to take that step of faith?

2 Corinthians 5:7

New King James Version

For we walk by faith, not by sight.

Do not be swayed by what you see in the natural but believe in the vision or dream that you have of yourself. Visions and dreams gives you the ability to see those things that are not yet real as if it is already there. Guess what? God is in the business of giving us dreams and visions.

Acts 2:17-21;

New King James Version

‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams.

Your dream or vision that resonates within you actually gives you a picture of what you are capable of. It shows your potential. It may be out of this world but that’s what dreams and visions are supposed to be. This should motivate you to push yourself because even though it shows you your potential… it is also a reminder that you are not there yet. This should serve as a positive challenge and a goal to be achieved.

Take that leap of faith… if you know that it is Gods will for you (yes, it is Gods will for you to prosper) and you have peace in your heart even though there are still unanswered questions. That step of faith might cause you to embark in such a journey which is actually the fulfillment of your dreams. Those things that you thought was impossible was already coming to reality right in front of you.

How bad do you really want your financial freedom?

My suggestion is BE VIOLENT my brother and sisters.

God wants you prosperous – Part 4

What is written below is something I already wrote in my one of my previous article entitled, “GOD WANTS YOU PROSPEROUS – Part 3”. The reason is because I felt that there is a need of reminding ourselves what was mentioned before. With this, I will also add something I recently learned which blessed me and has broaden my understanding… and I believe it will do the same for you. So here it is:

I heard a minister before saying that the antidote to greediness or the love of money is when a man understands the purpose of money, some calls it “Money with a mission”. I believe it to be true, because once you get to understand the purpose of wealth or money, there is a high possibility that you will not be side tracked. Now what other reasons are there to why God wants you to prosper?

2 Corinthians 9:8-9;11-14;

Living Bible (TLB)

8 God is able to make it up to you by giving you everything you need and more so that there will not only be enough for your own needs but plenty left over to give joyfully to others. 9 It is as the Scriptures say: “The godly man gives generously to the poor. His good deeds will be an honor to him forever.”

11 Yes, God will give you much so that you can give away much, and when we take your gifts to those who need them they will break out into thanksgiving and praise to God for your help. 12 So two good things happen as a result of your gifts—those in need are helped, and they overflow with thanks to God. 13 Those you help will be glad not only because of your generous gifts to themselves and to others, but they will praise God for this proof that your deeds are as good as your doctrine. 14 And they will pray for you with deep fervor and feeling because of the wonderful grace of God shown through you.

Knowing the purpose of wealth will enable us to use money wisely and prevent us from being overwhelmed with greed or the lust of it. God is able to make all grace abound in our life which will make us have sufficiency of everything, have wealth, money, resources which then will empower us to abound in every good work – which is to be generous to others in helping meet their needs. Joyful giving! God prospers us so that we can be a blessing to others. How can you be a blessing if you have nothing to give? Always remember that the greatest expression of love is giving. By doing so, not only will their needs be met but it will also give glory and praises to God. God will be exalted because the promises of God’s word came to reality in their lives, Gods word or promise to them actually manifested by His grace in us which then empowered us to be generous givers. In other words, we became Gods instruments of blessings to others. It also creates a solid and intimate relationship between the people and God… and also to the people and those God used as instruments of blessing. For the people who received the blessing will be grateful for the grace of God that is working in the life of those used by God to be a blessing.

Proverbs 19:4; (NKJV)

Wealth makes many friends

But the poor is separated from his friends.

Money can help you make friends, money can help you connect with people. This is one of the main purpose of money…making friends. It will be more effective for you to reach people or minister to people for Jesus Christ.

It is clear here that money is to be used as a tool to effectively reach out to people. Unselfish Love!

Ephesians 4:28;

Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labor, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something to give to him who has need.

It is fascinating to know that the scriptures encourages us or promotes “Honest Labor”, to have a good honest job. God doesn’t want us to be lazy nor do evil like steal but work, working with hands what is good and it even gives us a new perspective on why we should work. We work not only to meet our needs but also to meet other people’s needs. We labor not so we can only pay our bills but that we can also help other people pay their bills. Amazing how the Bible promotes unselfishness to be one of our goals in life. I also believe that this character of being a generous giver is a divine nature that God Himself has deposited in us, in other words it’s one of our purposes in life. Once we learned to live in our purpose, we will be able to experience satisfaction and fulfillment. Being a blessing to others brings such joy that we have no words to describe its beautiful feeling.

Galatians 3:14;

That the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Holy Spirit through faith.

As New Testament believers, we have received the blessing of Abraham and the blessing of Abraham is a blessing of grace because it is all Gods doing.

Genesis 12:1-3;

Now the Lord had said to Abram:

“Get out of your country,

From your family

And from your father’s house,

To a land that I will show you.

2 I will make you a great nation;

I will bless you

And make your name great;

And you shall be a blessing.

3 I will bless those who bless you,

And I will curse him who curses you;

And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

Take note that Abraham was blessed by God not for selfish reasons, but that Abraham shall be a blessing to others, to be a blessing to all the families of the Earth. WOW! Can you imagine how much wealth it will take for you to be a blessing to multitudes of people including all the families of the Earth? You do the math. So let God enable you to prosper and not only enjoy life but better than that which is to be a blessing to many. Let Gods love flow through you towards the people.

People of Habit

I have heard many experts say that we are people of habits, everyone has develop a certain habit or habits which stays with them for years or even a lifetime. Experts will even say that their habit becomes their comfort zone, they became comfortable doing that same thing again and again. Just like laziness, it is actually a habit that a person developed in time and it became his comfort zone. To sleep and do nothing, being unproductive became an acceptable reality. Same is also true for the opposite, a hard working person will have developed a habit of always working. Even when there is nothing to do, the person cannot stand doing nothing and the tendency is he will look for something to do.

Once you understand that we are people of habit, you will get to understand why people are afraid of this very thing called CHANGE. As mentioned above, when a man develops a habit… it becomes his comfort zone. Now if something new is introduced and is required to be adapted, the person will have difficulty adapting it because it means he has to get out of his comfort zone and on the other hand he has to develop another or a new habit. There are many examples that we can relate to this matter, like:

  • A person who is used to getting up whenever he likes will have difficulty getting up early in the morning and get ready for work. For getting up early is a requirement that he needs to adapt in his daily life if he want to keep his job and be paid.
  • I also have seen business people who got used to managing their business manually. When computers started to rise, for them to change from manually managing accounts to digitally managing it is quite difficult because their used to the old way of doing business. The old way worked for them for many years, they are secure and certain of the old way. For them to change means they have to expose themselves to something new and something that they are not sure if it will work for them or will bring them success. Even if another habit is presented that promises to give more profit, they would have double thoughts of changing because they are not sure if it will work but the old habit is proven and tested, they are well versed with it and they know by experience that it works.
  • I have seen people who got used to a certain lifestyle which made them have no savings at all or even fall into debt. For them to change their lifestyle by getting rid of some or downgrading it is quite a challenge and even confusing because it affects their image of themselves. But if financial security is their priority, they will do the necessary changes even if it is uncomfortable for them to do so.

If a habit is developed which is purposeful and it brings benefits or profit to a person that habit can become his security. It is also said that for a habit to become a habit you have to do that certain thing consistently with discipline for at least 21 days. It is also said that it is always hard in the beginning, that’s why many don’t want to even start because they know it will be difficult but there is certainty that in due time it becomes easy. Since we are people of habit, let us develop or adapt habit or habits that is profitable to us.

Isaiah 48:17; (NKJV)

17 Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer,

The Holy One of Israel:

“I am the Lord your God,

Who teaches you to profit,

Who leads you by the way you should go.

God Himself doesn’t only want us prosperous but He even teaches us how to profit.

If you would study the life of Jesus, He too was a person of habit which is actually profitable to Him. He always had the habit of going to a place like the mountains to pray, to communicate with The Father.

CHANGE!!! Change for the better requires that you develop habits that will be profitable to you because if you keep doing what you do repeatedly and are believing or expecting for a different result or a better life… it is called INSANITY.

Many people even ministers doesn’t believe that it is Gods will for them to be rich because it could lead to greediness. Some people even used the scripture 1 Timothy 6:10 (NKJV)

10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Please understand that money itself is not the root of all evil but the love of money. Being attached to it or having a wrong connection or relationship with money is the root of all evil. Money is supposed to be our servant and not our master. Money is a good servant but a terrible master.

Matthew 6:24 (NKJV)

You Cannot Serve God and Riches

24 “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

You cannot serve God and money but you can serve God with the assistance of money. The verse above says that you cannot serve God and mammon.

Webster’s dictionary defines “Mammon” as:

1) the false god of riches and avarice.

2) riches regarded as an object of worship and greedy pursuit; wealth as an evil, more or less

Winston defines it to mean:

1) wealth, worldly gain;

2) greed for riches; cupidity.

Oxford defines: god of wealth, regarded as evil or immoral; ‘those who worship mammon’ are equivalent to greedy people who value money too highly.

God never intended man to be under the dictatorship of money as if it was its god which leads to greed but rather money was intended by God to be man’s servant, especially a man with a proper cause or purpose.

I heard a minister before saying that the antidote to greediness or the love of money is when a man understands the purpose of money, some calls it “Money with a mission”. I believe it to be true, because once you get to understand the purpose of wealth or money, there is a high possibility that you will not be side tracked. Now what are the other reasons why God wants you to prosper?

Proverbs 19:4; (NKJV)

Wealth makes many friends

But the poor is separated from his friends.

Money can help you make friends, money can help you connect with people. This is one of the main purpose of money…making friends. It will be more effective for you to reach people or minister to people for Jesus Christ.

I mentioned before that there are so many scriptures in the Word of God that will reveal to us all that God wants us to prosper, God wants us rich. If it was not true then why would God leave hidden truths / principles or secrets in the Bible on how to become rich, wouldn’t that just be a waste?

Not only did God leave principles in the Bible on how to become rich, but He has also made His grace available to us who believe in Christ which will result to prosperity in our life. He gave His BLESSING!

The Bible reveals Gods perfect will in our life and tells us that after receiving God’s blessing, the result is:

Deuteronomy 28:12b-13 (NKJV)

You shall lend to many nations but you shall not borrow.

“And the Lord will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only and not be beneath,

The Bible declares that the blessing of God will enable us to lend instead of borrowing and take note… LENDING TO MANY NATIONS. Just imagine how much money that would be.

The Bible also declares that we are seated with Christ in the Heavenly place, in power and authority, and all things has been placed under our feet.

Ephesians 1:20 & 2: 4-6; (NKJV)

20 which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places,

4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,

God has placed us in a place of power and authority so that whatever we do here on Earth, it will have weight, and it will surely bring an impact to people. How can a man be of power and authority when he is poor?

In the beginning when God created man and woman, the very first thing God did was to BLESS them.

Genesis 1:27-28; (NKJV)

27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

Genesis 1:28b

The Message

God blessed them:

“Prosper! Reproduce! Fill Earth! Take charge!

The reason why God blessed man first after creating them is because it is the only way (through the Blessing) will they be able to Prosper, Reproduce, Fill the Earth and Take Charge over it, To Govern it. In other words, the blessing is an Empowerment / it’s an Ability given by God so man can Prosper, to be Productive and to take Charge. You need to see that God already gave us the ability and/or empowerment to prosper but to use it so we can see prosperity manifest is still ours.

Deuteronomy 8:18; (NKJV)

18 “And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.

Take note that God gave us the ability of GET WEALTH. God is not just gonna bring the wealth to us, He wants us to GET IT. In other versions of the Bible it says that God gave us the ability to CREATE Wealth. I believe this means that God will give us brilliant ideas and abilities to attain wealth, to create wealth. Yes, I believe that there are times by that God uses people or even the animal kingdom to bring the blessings or wealth to us but the Bible also encourages that we learn ways of getting it and we have the empowerment to do so. God gives us the ability to create wealth so that He can establish His covenant which He swore.

Psalm 89:34; (NKJV)

34 My covenant I will not break,

Nor alter the word that has gone out of My lips.

Hebrews 10:23; (NKJV)

23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.

You need to understand that God is person of His word. God is faithful to His promises and He never fails in fulfilling it.

Proverbs 10:22; (NKJV)

22 The blessing of the Lord makes one rich,

And He adds no sorrow (toiling, misery) with it.

The blessing of the Lord will help us become rich without toiling (working hard to the point of misery). The blessing will help us become rich and at the same time, we are enjoying every step of the way in becoming rich… instead of suffering and compromising many things on the way to prosperity like health, family, values and many more.

You need to understand that there are purposes and/or reasons why God wants you to prosper, be wealthy and rich.

  • First, based on 1 Timothy 6:17, God gives you richly all things TO ENJOY, you see God wants you to enjoy life and He also knows that you need money to enjoy life.

  • Secondly, the reason is:

Proverbs 10:15; (NKJV)

15 The rich man’s wealth is his strong city;

The destruction of the poor is their poverty.

One of the reasons why God would want you wealthy and/or rich is because wealth will bring you

–          Protection

–          Security

–          Strength

–          Support

–          Defense

But poverty does not help… instead it brings destruction, a life full of chaos and uncertainty. So if poverty brings destruction, why would God want you poor? It doesn’t make sense especially now in the New Testament that God is our Good Father.  Many people have the tendency to over spiritualize things and will say that our security, protection, strength is no other than Jesus. I understand that and I believe that Jesus is and should be the ultimate source of our every supply. But God also knows the advantage of money in our life, that’s why I believe that Jesus had wealth so that He can be a person of strength and power when He was doing His ministry here on Earth. I heard that the amount of wealth that Jesus received as a child when the Maji’s found Him was more or less $40,000,000. If Jesus needed money to be effective in His ministry and a person influence towards the people, then I believe it is also Gods will for us to prosper now. People with wealth are people with power and all the more they can do great works for God, for their loved ones and others.

For so many years I have seen Christians face many challenges in life but one of the most common of all is in the area of FINANCES. We must also admit to the truth that many of the problems we face actually started from problems in finances. Now as believers in Christ, we may not be of this world but we need to remind ourselves that we are still in this world and in this world there is an economic system that exists where money plays a vital role. You cannot deny this fact because as long as you are in this world, you are subject to this system meaning you need money. Even Jesus in His Earthly ministry needed money in order to operate and do His ministry here… guess what? We aren’t exempted too.

We also need to understand that God though He is Spirit knows that we have need of material things and even finances (Read Matthew 6:23-34).

Matthew 6: 32-33;
“For after all these things (Food, Drink & Clothing – Material Things where we need money to acquire them) the Gentiles seek. For Your Heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God (Gods will on Eart as it is in Heaven) and His righteousness (Gods Righteous attitude towards His covenant to the people – He will never alter the words that came out from His mouth – His promises) , and all these things shall be added to you.

It is Gods good pleasure as a Generous Father to provide us of all these things. Actually God wants us to prosper in every areas of our life including finances and/or material things.

3 John 1:2
King James Version (KJV)
Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

This is an amazing verse in the Bible, written by John the beloved, He desires ABOVE ALL THINGS… meaning it is his utmost desire as a minister towards Gods people that they prosper and be in good health. I have heard other preachers say that this utmost desire of John actually came from God first and foremost. And I totally agree. It is Gods utmost desire that we do prosper and be in good health. Please take note that prosperity and health happens in the realm of the physical, this is not referring to spiritual prosperity or spiritual health. But prosperity and health will only be real unless and until our soul prosper first. Many say that prosperity starts from within and the Bible agrees. Our mind, will and emotions must prosper first before we can see the manifestation in the physical.

Other than that, I would like to clearly declare that prosperity is the result of God’s Grace in our life.

2 Corinthians 8:9
New King James Version (NKJV)
For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.

2 Corinthians 9:8;
New King James Version (NKJV)
And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.

Under the New Covenant, now that we have Jesus, it is clearly the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ that will enable us to be rich here on Earth. God’s grace abounding in our life will cause us to have all sufficiency in all things, and in context it is actually referring to money.

Under the Old Testament, God had pleasure in the prosperity of His servants.

Psalm 35:27
New King James Version (NKJV)
27 Let them shout for joy and be glad,
Who favor my righteous cause;
And let them say continually,
“Let the Lord be magnified,
Who has pleasure in the prosperity of His servant.”

God takes pleasure in the prosperity of His servants but we who are in the New Covenant of Grace, we are no longer servants but Children (Sons & Daughters) of God. If God takes pleasure in the prosperity of His servants, how much more His children.

Romans 8:15;
New King James Version (NKJV)
For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”

Luke 11:13
New King James Version (NKJV)
13 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”

I can go on and on, with many scriptures that will reveal to you that God wants you to be prosperous, God wants you rich. If it was not true then why would God leave hidden truths or secrets in the Bible on how to become rich, wouldn’t that just be a waste?

You need to understand that there are purposes and/or reasons why God wants you to prosper, be wealthy and rich.

1 Timothy 6:17
New King James Version (NKJV)
17 Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy.

He gives you richly all things TO ENJOY, you see God wants you to enjoy life and He also knows that you need money to enjoy life.

What I’m about to share is very straight forward. I sometimes feel like I don’t have the authority to share these but I’m taking my chances because I believe it to be true and relevant. These may sound cruel and judgmental but I would like to honestly say that this is not my intention but rather I would like you to wake up and be aware of the truth and hope that this will be means to starting a new path for you in finances. Some people say that we sometimes need TOUGH LOVE, take these as such. I too did need some tough love in my life that actually did help me grow and mature. At times it is what we need to help us get back on the right track. Hope it will be the same for you. Again, please do not take this offensively but I pray that it will help you be conscious that there is better way and that one must pursue it.

Proverbs 15:10; (NKJV)
Harsh discipline is for him who forsakes the way, And he who hates correction will die.

The truth does hurt but at times that is what we need. I believe in correction and not condemnation. God does correct us and not condemn us… and it is because of His love for us. God corrects us through His written word which is the truth.

2 Timothy 3:16; (NKJV)
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,

I use to hear people say that a true friend will tell you the truth even if it hurts you. If telling the truth will actually save you from many troubles, damages and much more severe pain, if there is love… then the truth must be told. But I also believe that people who can correct you should be people who has been able to build a good relationship with you and TRUST. Or in better words, people who you really loves you and cares to give you the best. If the person knows that he is loved and that there is trust, that person will listen. I have seen people correcting others but has not established a trust worthy relationship with them, eventually it ends up bad. I may be a nobody to you but I would like to encourage you and challenge you to be wise, have an open mind and heart and listen to what I have to say. I hope you will be able to see the truth that will be profitable to you. Hope it will help you mature and achieve financial freedom.

Proverbs 10:17; (NKJV)
He who keeps instruction is in the way of life, But he who refuses correction goes astray.

Proverbs 12:1; (NKJV)
Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge, But he who hates correction is stupid.

One of the people that actually gave me tough love was my dad. Back then in most cases, we never saw everything eye to eye… but he use to tell me many stuff especially about life & finances that I never really understood its relevance then and therefore I just shoved it away. But today, now I have grown in my understanding… I found that his words were so filled with substance and wisdom that I only now realize. Even though my dad is not with us anymore but I can still hear his words echoing in my head just as if it was yesterday.
He always use to me and my siblings that we should always have goals and always eye for accomplishments, never to be complacent. To always establish a system in life, in business, an effective system that works for it will benefit us long term. He never fails to mention that we should always have a plan, to have a strategy in how you will execute your life here on Earth. And many many more.

Proverbs 15:5; (NKJV)
A fool despises his father’s instruction, But he who receives correction is prudent.

Rejecting correction is one of the reason why a person remains poor and miserable all their life. In rejecting correction, we actually reject knowledge and since we rejected knowledge… we suffer.

Proverbs 13:18; (NKJV)
Poverty and shame will come to him who disdains correction, But he who regards a rebuke will be honored.
Hosea 4:6 (NKJV)
6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.
Because you have rejected knowledge,

I hope I have been able to prepare you for what is next. So here it goes…

Matthew 7:6 (NKJV)
6 “Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.

What I’m about to say many may not agree but I believe this to be true. This is wisdom my brothers and sisters, never give something that is of value to you to someone who doesn’t know how to value it… for they will just put it to waste and in return hurt & disappoint you big time. Like people who comes and asks for financial assistance… but the truth of the matter is that some of these people doesn’t know the value of the finances you possess. I’m not referring to the buying power of the money but how much effort you exerted to attain it. You understand the reality of life here on Earth and that nothing comes free… and so your work, you go the extra mile and you take risks so that you can establish yourself financially. You understand the value of your finances, it goes beyond the buying power of the money… it actually involves your life. But there are others who do not see it that way and maybe that is also the reason why they are struggling financially. But since they are in need of financial help and you have the means, they come asking for your help. They even promise to pay you but believe me when I say that if they don’t have the same values you have when it comes to finances or has no integrity, do not expect that they will ever pay you back. Since they do not have the same value, they too will never attempt to rise above their own struggles (But I believe anyone can rise above their struggles, it is just a matter of choice and being true to that decision) that person will repeatedly ask for help. But there is a question you must ask yourself, in giving them money are you really helping them or are you tolerating their unproductive lifestyle. Because in many cases giving them money doesn’t really help, you might be able to help them only for a while but once shortage kicks in, they will come back to you because they got used to your help. Instead of learning to be independent, they on the other hand got used to being dependent on you. Yes financial assistance will help them but it will only be temporary, what they really need is understanding, knowledge, wisdom… education. What they need the most is to be taught. I’m not saying we should not bless others, we should but we need to wise as well.

Are we making a good investment, are we making a difference or are we throwing pearls (something that is of value to us) to pigs (someone who doesn’t recognize that value). I know this sounds harsh and cruel but it is not my intention to condemn. Again Tough Love. The Bibles declares that people who accepts rebuke, reproof and correction are wise and it is a way of life. Some people do not recognize the value because they lack knowledge, they lack understanding. In short, they just don’t know it yet. That is why they need to be educated, they need to be taught.

I know this because many years ago, I too was in that same situation. I lacked the understanding, I lacked the push and I suffered financially because I had poor beliefs about finances & opportunities which later on I found out that it was wrong. Due to wrong beliefs, I never attempted to search for knowledge about finances because I never saw the need for it. So I lacked knowledge about financial literacy but my Dad was actually trying to teach me his knowledge about money but I just didn’t listen because I never thought it was relevant. You could say that I rejected knowledge then. I always was asking for financial aid from others especially from my parents but I never attempted to learn and change for the better. I was limited in my thinking. The financial aid that I received repeatedly never solved the problem, the problem just kept showing up every month… lack of finances… being poor… guess what, it SUCKS!

Proverbs 21:1(NKJV)
16 A man who wanders from the way of understanding will rest in the assembly of the dead

But on other cases, there are people who knows what needs to be done but are just lazy. And I was that lazy bump too. Laziness is a person’s choice and it leads to poverty. When a person is found lazy, you should not entertain their laziness. I’m not saying to be cruel towards that person but not to encourage their laziness, do not tolerate their laziness. You are never helping when you give a lazy person financial assistance. I’m not saying I’m perfect… of course not. But I have learned something new and vital, I educated myself and I placed my knowledge into action… I’m better now than who I was many years ago.

Proverbs 19: 15; NKJV
Laziness casts one into a deep sleep,
And an idle person will suffer hunger

Proverbs 22:25; NKJV
The desire of the lazy man kills him,
For his hands refuse to labor.

People need to wake up and take responsibility for their life because the truth is no one else will do it for you. It’s your choice, no one will choose for you… so choose wisely.
I again would like to quote Bill Gates: If you are born poor, it is not your fault. But if you die poor, it is your fault.
I know this sounds like a condemnation but I would like to encourage you to see it in another perspective. See it as a challenge to rise up and start doing something for yourself, for your future and even for your family.
Last but the not the least at all… You have God!

Philippians 4:13; (NKJV)
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

In Christ or through Christ you can do all things. The key is THROUGH CHRIST because He is the one who supplies every means possible for you to be a success. He will even supply you the strength you need with every endeavor you will till you succeed.

I was able to learn something very vital yet it came to me in an unusual way. Its quiet embarrassing but I also thought it would be fun to share it. In our bathroom, our shower doesn’t work so we end up filling our pail with water and using a dipper in order for us to take a bath. Usually I would wait for the pail to be totally filled with water before I start using the dipper and that usually takes time, minutes of me standing doing nothing. This has become a routine practice whenever I would take a bath but one day I realized that I can actually start even before the pail would be filled with water. And there I discovered something about myself, I realized that I was the type of person who would wait for everything to be perfect before I would go and pursue a certain goal… and in the process I end up waiting and waiting… but what was actually happening was I ended up wasting time and loosing opportunities. Many may not agree with me in this but this is what I have learned and it was one of those wake up calls for me, instead of waiting for everything to be perfect before I would pursue a goal… I’m now a person who believes that one should pursue the goal immediately and in the process make everything perfect.

I use to be that person who believes in waiting on God for His perfect timing… although I still believe in it but I also believe that in some cases instead of waiting on God, God is actually waiting on us. In respect to achieving financial freedom, I believe that God has already prepared everything we need to prosper, all we need to do is receive it and us it… in other words God is waiting on us.

Do you remember taking a bath with cold water? I do and I always prepare myself mentally before I would pour that first dip of cold water over my head but sometimes the mental preparation takes such a long time. No matter how long it takes for you to mentally prepare yourself and take the first dip… the result would always be the same, you get wet and the water is still cold.

I remember learning from my readings that the rich and/or entrepreneurs in pursuing financial freedom follow this principle: READY, SHOOT AND AIM. Just like in shooting or archery but with a slight difference if you noticed. Instead of READY, AIM and SHOOT… it is READY, SHOOT AND AIM. This principle teaches:

  • That you should not wait for everything to be perfect, instead of waiting and doing nothing… resulting to wasting time and loosing opportunities. Start your journey now and not waste time or loose opportunities but grab them and maximize them. Then make everything perfect in the process.
  • You may not know everything yet (but it is very important for you to know enough to get you started) but start the journey because you get to learn on the way. By the way, you will never get to know everything because even if you thought you knew it all… there will always be something new and vital to learn. Learning is a never ending experience that is why many say that we are a student for life. Some may say that if you do not know everything then there is a possibility of mistakes. YES! That is the difference between the rich and the poor, the poor are always afraid of making mistakes that is why nothing happens in their life while the rich and/or the entrepreneur are never afraid to make mistakes because they believe they can learn from mistakes. Risk takers (calculated risk of course / learning to manage risk). Yes, we can learn from other peoples mistakes (it is a wise thing to do) but do not let the fear of failure stop you from reaching your goal, to stop you from starting and experiencing the thrill & excitement of achieving.
  • As you learn along the way, as you learn from your mistakes… then you can AIM. You can correct it and make it right. The path becomes clearer and you too become wiser & smarter in the process. The key is start NOW! Not when you get old and it is too late. If you start early and make a mistake, you still have time to fix and correct it. At least at this point you have done something for yourself otherwise you will be haunted for the rest of your life with the “WHAT IF?” question. What if I went for it? Would I have achieved Financial Freedom by now? The point is live your life with no regrets. If you made a mistake, then at least you learned it was a mistake and you learn what not to do. With it you could also learn a much better way, thus AIM or AIMING starts. Again, you become smarter and wiser.

This so similar with FAITH. The Bible encourages us to live by faith.

Romans 1:16-18 (NKJV)

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ,[a] for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”[b]

But what is FAITH?

Hebrews 11:1-5 (NKJV)

11 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

We are encouraged to live by Faith and I have learned that Faith operates in the NOW – not Tomorrow – nor 10 years from now.

Faith also moves you to a path that you yourself are not sure if it will work, that is why others would say “Take a leap of Faith” and then later you would realize that it did work. It worked for your benefit. You are hoping for financial freedom and faith helps you understand that it is very much possible. Financial freedom is not yet a reality, people don’t see it yet but faith helps you see it in your mind and heart, it brings you to the point that it is very much achievable. It helps you feel it in you as if it is already there. That is why the Bible also encourages to declare the end result from the beginning.

Romans 4:16-18 (NKJV)

16 Therefore it is of faith that it might be according to grace, so that the promise might be sure to all the seed, not only to those who are of the law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all 17 (as it is written, “I have made you a father of many nations”[a]) in the presence of Him whom he believed—God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did; 18 who, contrary to hope, in hope believed, so that he became the father of many nations, according to what was spoken, “So shall your descendants be.”[b]

God functions the same way just like what He did to Abraham, even though Abraham did not have a son and Sarah was barren, yet God called those things which do not exist as though they did, God called Abraham the Father of Many Nations. We can function the same way too since we are created in His image and likeness. We can function like God, declaring those things that you are hoping for as if they do exist. This is a good lifestyle to develop within ourselves.

Never forget God, God is on your side in achieving financial freedom and He will help you every step of the way.

Thinking Outside The Box

The Lesson Behind The Nine Dots Puzzle

We need to be conscious about many things in life but if there is one thing that I would like to give emphasis which will help you achieve Financial Freedom is our thinking or our mindset.

Proverbs 22:6; NKJV

6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Though this scripture speaks about how we are to raise up a child but this verse also stresses the importance of what a person learns at a young age because as he grows older, he will not depart from it. Again, it is important what we learn when young because it is eventually who we are going to be. They say that the very first school anyone could have is their home or family, same is also true when it comes to financial education. How our parents manage finances is the same way we will manage it too. Many children have limited understanding about how money works and it is because the parents themselves have limited understanding.

So we must know by now that we cannot go beyond the contents of our mind. So if we want a different life, my advice is we should start thinking differently, in other words “Educate yourself”.

Proverbs 23:7 (NKJV)

For as he thinks in his heart (mind), so is he.

One the famous phrases that every rich or entrepreneurs use in order for anyone to excel or achieve Financial Freedom is “You have to Start Thinking outside the box”, “Think out of the box” or “Think beyond the box”. It is a metaphor that means to think differently, unconventionally, or from a new perspective. This phrase often refers to novel or creative thinking. The opposite which is “Limited Thinking” will result to a limited life or “Living inside a box”.

A popular yet challenging mind game is the Nine Dots Puzzle. The term is thought to derive from management consultants in the 1970s and 1980s challenging their clients to solve the “nine dots” puzzle, whose solution requires some lateral thinking.

Take time to solve this puzzle, it will help you learn about your current way of thinking and will also usher you to think differently, crossing boundaries towards a new perspective. The objective is to draw four continuous straight line connecting all the dots.

The catchphrase, or cliché, has become widely used in business environments, especially by management consultants and executive coaches, and has been referenced in a number of advertising slogans. To think outside the box is to look farther and to try not thinking of the obvious things, but to try thinking beyond them.

A simplified definition for paradigm is a habit of reasoning or a conceptual framework. A simplified analogy is “the box” in the commonly used phrase “thinking outside the box“. What is encompassed by the words “inside the box” is analogous with the current, and often unnoticed, assumptions about a situation. In simple phrase “the box” refers to a way of thinking that you have been used to, it has already been your thinking habit, you think about it so naturally that it sometimes even go unnoticed.  It also shows that your thinking has its boundaries and can never go beyond it, your understanding limited. That’s why if something new is presented to you that exceeds your knowledge or thinking, you end up being unfruitful – not knowing what to do because you do not understand it. Creative thinking acknowledges and rejects the accepted paradigm to come up with new ideas. The notion of something outside a perceived “box” is related to a traditional topographical puzzle called the nine dots puzzle.

The origins of the phrase “thinking outside the box” are obscure; but it was popularized in part because of a nine-dot puzzle, which John Adair claims to have introduced in 1969. The nine dots puzzle is much older than the slogan. It appears in Sam Loyd’s 1914 Cyclopedia of Puzzles and his original formulation of the puzzle entitled it as “Christopher Columbus’s egg puzzle.” This was an allusion to the story of Egg of Columbus. Which tells us something about Christopher Columbus, he was a person who thought outside the box which led him to go beyond… a quest into the sea to discover new lands specifically the discovery of America.

You might be having quiet a challenging time solving this puzzle. Maybe the reason why you are not able to solve it is because the lines that you draw never exceeds the boundaries of the black box even though the boundaries was never seen at the beginning.

One of many solutions to the puzzle at the beginning of this article is to go beyond the boundaries to link all dots in 4 straight lines. The puzzle proposed an intellectual challenge—to connect the dots by drawing four straight, continuous lines that pass through each of the nine dots, and never lifting the pencil from the paper. The conundrum is easily resolved, but only by drawing the lines outside the confines of the square area defined by the nine dots themselves. The phrase “thinking outside the box” is a restatement of the solution strategy. The puzzle only seems difficult because people commonly imagine a boundary around the edge of the dot array. The heart of the matter is the unspecified barrier that people typically perceive. Even though the red boundary is never shown in beginning of the puzzle but while solving it or in the way that we solve it somehow shows that the boundary or the barrier exist because we never go beyond it. It reveals that we have an unseen barrier in our own thinking that seemingly goes unnoticed.  Our mindset contained inside a box which limits our thinking and that is also one of the reason why we cannot solve new problems or even the puzzle.

Ironically, telling people to “think outside the box” does not help them think outside the box, at least not with the 9-dot problem. While solving the problems you will be encouraged to think aloud. When thinking aloud you should not hold back hunches, guesses, wild ideas, images, plans or goals. The nine-dot problem is a well-defined problem. It has a clearly stated goal, and all necessary information to solve the problem is included (connect all of the dots using four straight lines). Furthermore, well-defined problems have a clear ending (you know when you have reached the solution). Although the solution is “outside the box” and not easy to see at first, once it has been found, it seems obvious.

Here is the answer:

Let’s make it more challenging, how about solving the puzzle by connecting the dots using only three straight lines. Take time to solve it and I will show you the answer later.

I maybe going ahead of myself with this but I would like to share some of the main characters of the rich and even the entrepreneurs, which is:

  1. They do think outside the box, they think differently. They love to educate themselves with new knowledge that will help them excel in life.
  2. They love to solve problems, they don’t shy away from problems but would face them head on because they understand that in solving problems, they get to learn and experience something new that will make them more smart, wise and strong.
  3. They never settle for average. For them being average is boring and dull.
  4. They love to innovate. They love to have new ideas, always in search of new ways that will affect change for the better and as innovators they are not afraid of change even if it means taking risks.
  5. They are risk takers but they just don’t take risk without first studying about it. They always make sure that the risk they are taking has been studied, planned, calculated and can be managed. They are wise in taking risks.

Jesus Christ was a person whose thinking is certainly outside the box. Read your Bible, Jesus did think differently and He had different perspective. Like the Jews, they knew God mostly as a Master but Jesus was introducing that God is more than a Master, He is a Good Father. This thinking blew the minds of the Jewish people specially the religious leaders and they called Jesus a blasphemous person. There are just so many examples in the Gospels about Jesus thinking outside the box. Not only did Jesus think outside the Box but He would do things out of the ordinary and He even encouraged His disciples to do the same. One scenario found in Matthew 14:22-33; which I will use again in the future sharing about “risk taking”, this is where Jesus was walking on water and appeared to the disciples who actually went ahead riding a boat but were having trouble crossing due to a storm. They all thought He was a Ghost but when Peter wanted to prove that it was Jesus walking on water, Peter told Jesus to bid him to walk on water too and Jesus said “Come”. Jesus was doing something out of the norm and He also told Peter to do the same.  Peter did walk on water, he was able to do something beyond the ordinary. Get out of the box, start thinking outside the box and you will live a life with new possibilities.

3 John 1:2 NKJV

Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.

Prosperity starts with your thinking. Prosperous soul will lead to a prosperous life.

Isaiah 54:2 (ERV)

2 “Make your tent bigger.

Open your doors wide.

Don’t think small!

Make your tent large and strong,

Broaden your thinking and enlarge the capacity of your mind. You will be amazed knowing that there is a better way, a better life awaiting you. Don’t be afraid of change but embrace change, embrace growth, embrace progress, embrace excellence of knowledge. Don’t allow yourself to perish because of lack of knowledge or even rejecting it. Give time to educating yourself, financial education is your key to financial freedom.

entrepreneur (1)

Do not also be afraid of asking for Big, it is Gods will for us to think Big and ask for Big too. Just like Jabez, he asked God to enlarge his territory and that is exactly what God did.

1 Chronicles 4:10; (NKJV)

10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” So God granted him what he requested.

You have to change the way you think, start thinking outside the box and you will be able to live a life you never thought was possible… Financial Freedom!

Here is the answer to the second challenge of the Nine Dot Puzzle:
